"Enjoy the power and beauty of your youth"

Hey guys, Todays post is going to be about a song a very good friend of mine showed me at quite a hard time in my life, a time when I was struggling to find my place within the beauty industry and find a job I loved and co-workers and a boss that were always striving to make me a better beauty therapist. (Thankfully I have absolutely found that perfect job and going to work is always so much fun!) The song in particular I'm going to talk about today is "Everybody's Free to Wear Sunscreen" by Baz Luhrmann and in particular this quote from the song (although there are plenty more gems to be found within this song)

"Enjoy the power and beauty of your youth, oh never mind you will not understand the power and beauty of your youth until they have faded. But trust me in 20 years, you'll look back on photos of yourself and recall in a way you can't grasp now, how much possibility lay before you and how fabulous you really looked.."

That same friend who introduced this song to me also took photos of me a while back because she was trying to get back behind the camera and find her love of photography again (Janenne Page Photography check her out, sneaky promo hehe). I willingingly modelled (if you can call it that) for her, and when I received these wonderful pictures back from her, she said something that really stuck with me about how important it is to exist in photos. "We live in this world where there are camera everywhere but also in a world where we lose people we love in an instant - it's so important to exist in photos - both for the future but more importantly for now..."

This really got me thinking, about how we as a generation love to take photos and make a highlight reel of our favourite places, people and moments on instagram. It will be so lovely for our children, and grandchildren to have these photos as digital memories for them to look back at your happy smiling young faces alight with the delight of being free and adventuring with all the opportunities in the world. We are so lucky to live in a generation where we take silly selfies and pictures galore of our lives, because one day someone else will very much appreciate being able to look at them and smile and reminisce. Future generations may even be writing studies about us and our silly social media habits ;)

Yes, sometimes we feel like crap scrolling through our instagram feeds looking at people living their best lives while we are at work, or alone at home or doing something boring. Let’s all remember one day we'll look back on the life we thought was boring at the time and remember via all those perfectly timed photos of small moments of laughter, fun and happiness - or maybe even sadness, melancholy and anger - but it's all important, every single one of those moments, because they lead you to exactly where you are now. They happened for a reason.

Take those photos, Pose ridiculously, Keep those photos that didn't quite make the instagram cut, Later on you will want to appreciate just how beautiful, young happy and free you were, and photos are the only way to do that. Don't feel ashamed of how you look, or be too scared to wear that bikini, that dress, or that crop top. Don't worry about how wrinkly you're getting. You're going to look back at your younger self and wish you had appreciated THE POWER AND BEAUTY OF YOUR YOUTH!

Thanks so much for reading, I hope this blog post has inspired you to always live your best life and appreciate every photo, every moment, every smile and every tear, it makes you who you are and you wont realise how much you should have appreciated the life you lived and the way you looked until it’s too late. Lots of love, Hayley xx
